Wiring
Ethernet
For correct ethernet wiring: Follow the the guidelines for ethernet wiring.
RS485
RS485 Wiring
- For correct RS485 wiring: Follow the guidelines for RS485 wiring.
- If the wiring shown in the table below is incorrect, please let us know.
- There is no general consensus in the industry about the usage of A and B for the RS485 polarity, so it may be counterintuitive and opposite of what you might expect for some devices.
Device | Sofar EMS model OM1 | Sofar EMS model IG8 | RS485-USB converter | RS485-Ethernet converter |

Configuration
Communication with the inverter can take place via Ethernet or RS485. Set up the inverter as described in the product manual.
If you choose to work via RS485, note the following:
- The protocols supported by the Sofar EMS via RS485 are "Modbus Sunspec" and "Aurora." In the Sofar EMS, these are known as "Modbus RTU Sunspec protocol" and "ABB Aurora Power One protocol" respectively.
- Modbus Sunspec" is only supported on inverter connection RS485-2.
- By default, the first scans for devices with a baud rate of 9600 and parity None. It is recommended that inverters be set to this baud rate and parity.
NOTE: RS485 Device Addresses
- You MUST give each device on the RS485 bus a unique address. Check the manual of the device on how to do this.
- Use lower addresses first (1, 2, ...) because the Sofar EMS will find them faster!
- For each device, it is generally recommended to stick with the factory default baud rate, parity, and stop bits. The Sofar EMS will scan on those first.
If you choose to work via Ethernet, note the following:
- The inverter acts as slave/server, the Sofar EMS as master/client.
- Over Ethernet, only the "Modbus Sunspec" protocol is supported. You must configure the Sofar EMS to use this protocol.
- The inverter and the Sofar EMS must be connected to the same LAN network.
