Preparation

Check if all your .
To configure the Sofar EMS you need an Installer account for Portal. If you don't yet have an account as an organization owner, you can register via: Portal.
Make sure there is a working and supported grid meter.

Note

For accurate grid measurements, it is recommended to connect directly to the P1 port of the digital meter. It is (generally) not possible to use an energy meter that is already connected to another device (e.g., a hybrid inverter).

For installations in Belgium:
The P1 user port of the digital meter is disabled by default. Activation is done through . After activation online it may take several hours before the digital meter's P1 port provides measurements.

Step-by-step installation

Installation
- Securely place or install the Sofar EMS in its designated location.
- Attach any additional equipment to the appropriate interfaces on the Sofar EMS.
- Insert a network cable into the network port (RJ45) of the Sofar EMS.
- Connect the Sofar EMS to a power source.
Configuration
- Log in to the online portal (Portal)
- Go to "Add controller"
  - Fill in the Serial Number and Verification Code of the controller
  - Claim the controller
- Go to "Settings"
  - Under "Current Site" select the new controller
- Go to "Controller Configuration"
- Follow the quick start guide in the controller interface
Add the end user
- Log in to your Portal
- Go to "User Management"
  - Search for the serial number of the installed controller
  - Add the end-user's email address

FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

When I go to "Controller Configuration", it says that the controller is offline.

Steps to undertake:

Check the internet connection of the Sofar EMS. Check with your computer if you have internet on the ethernet cable attached to the Sofar EMS.
Try scanning on the local network for the Sofar EMS with an IP scanner.
Check with the building owner (residential) or network administrator (commercial) if this is a network with fixed IP addresses. The Sofar EMS is by default configured to use DHCP. If you need to change it to a fixed IP address, first connect it to a DHCP network, and change the IP address from there to the necessary fixed IP address.
Check if communication over the right outbound network ports is allowed. (TODO: INSERT LINK TO DOCS)
