Water Meters via the P1 Port of the Digital Meter
Some digital water meters send their meter reading to the digital electricity meter, which publishes it on its P1 port. The EMS then reads the water meter through the same P1 cable as the electricity meter: no extra wiring is needed.
| Device Type |

| Water meter paired with a digital meter |
The water meter must be paired with the digital electricity meter. If the water meter's reading is not shown on the display of the digital meter, the EMS cannot read it either. A water meter with a pulse output can be read through a digital input instead, see Eniris.
Connect the digital electricity meter to the EMS with a P1 cable, as described on the page of the electricity meter (for example Fluvius). Activate the P1 port first.
The address is the M-Bus channel (1 to 4) on which the digital meter publishes the water meter. The digital meter numbers its M-Bus devices in the order in which they were paired.
| Measurement | Description | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | Meter reading of the water meter | m³ |
The digital meter receives a new reading from the water meter every 5 minutes (DSMR 5, e-MUCS) or every hour (DSMR 4.2). The volume therefore rises in steps. The water meters of the site are added up in the water total of the site.
| Problem | Possible Cause & Solution |
|---|---|
| Water meter not found by the scan | The water meter is not paired with the digital meter: its reading is not shown on the display of the digital meter. Contact the water company or the grid operator. |
| Water meter not found by the scan | The P1 cable delivered damaged data during the scan. Scan again. |
| Status "No new value from this meter for more than 3 hours" | The water meter no longer reaches the digital meter, typically because the battery of a wireless water meter is empty. The digital meter keeps publishing its last reading: that reading is not stored, so the consumption is not shown as zero. |
| Status "The digital meter publishes no M-Bus device on channel …" | The water meter was removed or paired again. Scan the P1 port again and add the water meter on its new channel. Then remove the old device. |
| Status "M-Bus channel … now holds another type of device" | Another meter (for example a gas meter) took the channel of the water meter after a re-pairing. Its reading is not stored as water. Scan again, add the water meter on its new channel and remove the old device. |
| Status "M-Bus channel … is already read by device …" | Two devices were added for the same channel, typically the old and the new meter after a replacement. Remove the device of the meter that is no longer paired. |
