Verbinding
De communicatie tussen de Sofar en de energiemeter verloopt via een RS-485 seriële bus of Modbus TCP.
Het wordt aanbevolen om afgeschermde kabels met twisted pairs te gebruiken voor optimale prestaties. Voor korte afstanden kan een twisted pair van een netwerkkabel (minimaal CAT5e) worden gebruikt.
De volgende richtlijnen zijn van toepassing:
- Maximale Afstand: De totale kabellengte, inclusief de hoofdkabel en aftakkingen, is beperkt tot 100 meter.
- Meerdere Energiemeters Aansluiten: De kabel moet in een kettingconfiguratie van meter naar meter worden aangesloten of worden afgesplitst van de hoofdkabel (aftakkingen mogen niet langer zijn dan 1 meter).
- Lange Afstanden: Het wordt aanbevolen om een 120Ω afsluitweerstand aan het einde van de hoofdkabel te plaatsen en de afsluitweerstand op de Sofar EMS te activeren.

- There is no general consensus in the industry about the usage of A and B for the RS485 polarity, so it may be counterintuitive and opposite of what you might expect for some devices.

Waarschuwing
NOTE: RS485 Device Addresses
- You MUST give each device on the RS485 bus a unique address. Check the manual of the device on how to do this.
- Use lower addresses first (1, 2, ...) because the Sofar EMS will find them faster!
- For each device, it is generally recommended to stick with the factory default baud rate, parity, and stop bits. The Sofar EMS will scan on those first.
