Public displays quick start

The public-display system uses three related objects:

1. a template defines reusable slides and block positions;
2. an instance configuration applies that template to one site;
3. a controller displays the resulting instance on a screen.

You can create and preview templates without hardware. Claim and link a controller only when the visual result is ready for deployment.

Step 1: Create the template

Open Public displays and choose the template area.

1. Add a template and give it a descriptive title.
2. Configure the canvas margin.
3. Add one or more slides.
4. Add blocks to each slide.
5. Position and size the blocks.
6. Configure the block type and its defaults.
7. Save and preview.

The current code supports image, chart, and solar-overview block types. Chart blocks select a series type and range; image blocks support an uploaded image and preview.

Step 2: Configure the site instance

Open the target installation and choose Public displays from the device Features menu. This site-level entry requires administrator authority on a supported site type.

1. Add an instance configuration.
2. Select the template.
3. Override the supported block values for this site.
4. Save the configuration.
5. Open View to preview the resolved presentation.

Step 3: Claim and link a controller

The global controller area is available to owners.

1. Enter the display controller serial number.
2. Enter its verification code.
3. Claim the controller.
4. Return to the site instance and link it to the intended controller.
5. Verify the result on the physical screen.

Final checks

• all blocks fit at the target aspect ratio;
• text remains readable at viewing distance;
• charts use the intended site and time range;
• uploaded images are appropriate for light and dark surroundings;
• no private operational data is exposed on a public screen;
• the linked controller is physically installed at the intended site.
